1900 census shows married 26 years having 9 children 7 living. The 1900 census is where I got the birth dates for part of the children. I found 10. I just have the census and births and death to go on so may not be correct on record.

Ben Anderson was shot and killed by John Maranda Miller in a dispute over rail fencing that had been washed onto Anderson's property during a flash flood. Miller was acquitted of all charges.

Ben died age 50y 7m 15d. from cemetery records copied by Sidney & Louise Bauer
In the Anderson cemetery on Cow Run there are 3 or more graves marked with field stones not readable.
Benjamin Anderson was a sawmill engineer. This reader of Art's List believes I should present the Anderson side of this story. I have copied her email verbatim.

Comments: A very lovely site you have put online.
I have to dispute the John Miller/Ben Anderson murder however as my family tells a different story
than you do. My mother in law was living while Melinda was alive and she heard all the tales also and
she tells if very different from what her grandmother Melinda and Melinda's many children told her.

John Miller in cold blood murdered shot and killed Benjamin Anderson over rails. Ben never drew his gun but John M Miller did, and he shot Ben in cold blooded murder. John Miller did not at the first inquest wa not in denial of these facts. It wasn't until John Miller rallied support and money that he defended himself. Got off saying self defense and that is a total lie. Your family and my Anderson all know it is. You don't have the facts correctly stated about John Miller as, your relative is a murderer. It haunted Ben Anderson's family over the years. Now just think about it as Ben Andersons's property was higher in elevation than John Miller's perhaps you should present both versions on your site. Go
back and look at the properties and Ben's property was in a higher elevation than John M Miller so yea rails would wash down not uphill to your John M Miller's property.

I could also provide more information than you have about Ben Anderson's family. Some you have is
    incorrect.

John M Miller murdered Benjamin Anderson and John M Miller got away with the murder. It's probably more true than your version you posted.
Those are my opinions and most likely more true than your version. Even the current owner of the farm says John Miller shot and killed Ben. You can put up whatever you want but should you not really present the truth about it?
    Judy

    Died:
Benjamin Anderson was killed by John M. Miller. Mrs. Shields stated, there had been family feuding and high water washed some rail fence from one farm down on to the other. A shooting occurred when Anderson attempted to recover his fence rails.
My Grandfather always said it was over a line fence. As you can see from the census they were next door neighbors. My grandfather was born August 22 1875 died March 4 1947.
I can remember by grandfather telling the story when I was small. Us children like to hear him tell the story about his neighbors getting in a fight and one killed the other. He more than likely grew up with both men

BENJAMIN ANDERSON KILLED BY JOHN MILLER - John M. Miller, Jr., a resident of the late David Sayre neighborhood on Cow Run about four miles from Angerona, is in jail charged with the murder of Benj. Anderson, of an adjoining farm.

Miller is a son of J. Miranda Miller, is 39 years old, has a wife and six children and was a hard-working, thrifty land owner. Anderson was probably fifty-five years of age, had a family, mostly grown, the youngest being nine, and lived on a farm owned by his son, Samuel, immediately below Miller's. They were related.

The men had been on bad terms for some time over a line. The difficulty that lead to the tragedy of Monday, which occurred about nin the the forenoon, was over rails that had been tossed about by the flood. Each claimed the rails and each had gone with his team to haul them. Miller was accompanied by his wife and Anderson by his wife and daughter. The ball, which was shot from a 32 calibre pistol, entered an inch over the left nipple and lodged in the right shoulder blade. Anderson died in 10 or 20 minutes after receiving the fatal wound, without making any statement.

At one o'clock an inquest was held by Squire B. F. Sayre.

The same Justice held the preliminary examination Monday night in the school house, near Anderson's. The State was represented at this hearing by Prosecuting Attorney O'Brien and the prisoner by Attorneys W. P. Kerwood and W. O. Parsons. The house was crowded and the examination lasted all night, though the only witnesses examined by the State were deceased's wife and daughter and the accused offered no evidence. At the conclusion Miller was remanded to jail. Bail was not asked for. (Benjamin Anderson is buried at Cow Run in the Anderson Cemetery)

    Notes:
Andrew born 1770 his father Edward Anderson 1735-1795. the information came from the Jackson County Past and Present book published in 1990.
From Andrew born 1770 down I have found most of it with some help from Mrs. Ada Ruth Sayre on Mary Anderson's brothers and sisters from Obituary.

Some has birth as NJ. some has death as 1825

I am guessing his age can not fine anything more on him.

This could be Andrew brother ???

These families live on joining farms most likely father and sons,
