- Funeral services for Isaac HOSCHAR, 62 year old farmer of Flatwoods, who took his own life last Friday by shooting, were held at Mt. Moriah Sunday and interment was in the cemetery there.
Members of the family discovered his lifeless body (in bed) last Friday morning when they went to call him for breakfast and Coroner C. Royal KESSEL, who viewed the body and made an examination, said that it was his opinion that he had taken his life with the 22 caliber rifle which lay by his side sometime during the night. He ordered the body brought to the Vail mortuary in Ripley where it was prepared for burial. It was the opinion of members of the dead man's family that despondency over domestic troubles had caused him to end his life and they said that he had made statements several times which indicated that he had been considering such an act.
Surviving are the widow and the following children, Mrs. Adaline CASTO, of Ripley; Mrs. Clara SOUTHALL, of Millwood, Andrew HOSCHAR, Jesse HOSCHAR, Junior HOSCHAR, Essie HOSCHAR, Wilmer HOSCHAR and Olive HOSCHAR, all at home. (Friday, 10 October 1941)

- Shot himself. What I have been told he was a very jealous person of his wife. The neighbors would tease him and tell him they seen other men at his house and he would quit work and go home and spend the rest of the day with her. I think that was mean of his brother (my grandpa) and the neighbors.
He was 62 years 9 months he could not have been 49y like record shows.

He was an only child. If there were other before him they were born dead. There were no other children born after him. I can not find a birth date on record for him.
The 1900 Jackson County Census list Elizabeth has having 8 children a nd six living. At that time Matilda Jane Hoschar would have died. I come across a birth for this family listing a child as Andrew J. Hoschar being born January 13, 1866, but could be Andrew Thomas put on record wrong then corrected, or could have died then name the next child by the same first name.
Andrew died at the age of 59 Dropsy (heart). He is buried at Antioch Cemetery on Cow Run near Cottageville, WV. His wife married twice after h is death. First to William H. Sayre in 1906 he was 72 she was 62, then she married in 1914 Benjamin Hutchinson. He died Jan. 4, 1918 buried at Antioch.
She died Jan. 27, 1925. At the home of Tom, who she made her home with. At the time they lived in a house on my Grandfather (Raymond E. Hartley) farm know as the Ide Durst place. My mother remember her as a short woman with frizzy and very thin hair. She died at age 80. Giving her last name as Hutchinson at death.
The records show that in 1857 Andrew purchased 300 acres on Cow Run part of which my uncles still owns.
The 1870 census list him as 34 worth 1000-250. Living in Jackson C o. WV Un ion Dist.
In the 1880 Census of Jackson Co. list him 44 Elizabeth 34 Andr ew L. or th is could be Andrew Thomas age 14, John W. 12, Matilda 10, Fre derick 8, An na C. 6, Philip E. (My grandfather) 3.

The only thing I am sure are part of the births, but the order of births are as shown on the sheet. The census list them in this order over the years but hard to tell date of birth except the one I know for sure. My father (Vinton Hoschar) also said they were born in this order. A grandson gave me John as being older, but not true, Andrew Thomas or (Tom) as he was called was the oldest.
