- Virginia L. “Jenny” Hess, 81, of Leon, passed away October 9, 2012, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born April 23, 1931, in Leon, a daughter of the late Hollie Francis and Elzina (Cain) Miller. Her husband, Bert C. Hess; son, Bert Alfred Hess; brothers, Lester Miller, Frank Miller, John L. Miller, and Willie A. Miller and sisters, Mary Kimberling, Lizzie Mendenhall, Leota Edwards, Atalee Casto, Jane Pritt, Flaura Shultz, and Evelyn Bellamy also preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker, a farmer, enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and sewing. Her home was always open to family and friends, and she attended the New Hope Chapel and Mt. Tabor Church.
Survivors include her sons, K.D. and his wife, Kelli Hess, and Frank N. and his wife, Paula Hess, all of Leon; sisters-in-law, Margaret Miller and Evelyn Miller; brothers-in-law, Horace Mendenhall and Thurmond Bellamy; grandchildren, James Hess (fiancé, Amber Sneed), and Kaitlyn Ward; step great-grandchildren, Daniel Mitchell, and Eain Dilley; special nephews, Arthur Miller and Rick Cain; special friends, Betty Hill, Gladys Beller, and C.L. Keefer, and a host of other extended family members, friends, neighbors and her beloved cat, Buddy.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to friends and neighbors, and to employees of Amedisy’s Home Health Services: Mary Woddell, Melissa Jefferson, Kerri Ours, Ingrid Bryon and Bethany Selinton.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2012, at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Evans, with the Rev. Verlin Hart and Rev. Roger Ramey officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Flatrock. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
- Leota (Miller) Edwards, 81, of Ripley, WV, departed this life, November 24, 2002, following an extended illness, at the home of her sister, Virginia Hess, of Leon.
She was born May 1, 1921, in Leon, WV, a daughter of the late Hollie F. and Elzina (Cain) Miller.
She was a former employee of Union Carbide of Charleston, and was a member of the Ripley Tabernacle Church.
Other survivors include a stepson, Daryl Edwards of Winfield; stepdaughter, Doris Jean Hudson of Davis Creek; sister, Evelyn Bellamy of Saint Albans; brother, Frank Miller of Mount Alto; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Seymour Edwards; 5 sisters; 3 brothers.
Service will be Wednesday, November 27, 2002 1 p.m. at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with the Rev. Jasper Herdman and Pastor Mark Siers officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Flatrock, WV. Visitation will be from 4 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
