Charles Nelson Stephens, 92, of Mayfair House, Berryville, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va. He was formerly of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Belpre, Ohio.
Mr. Stephens was born Aug. 19, 1913, in Parkersburg to the late Charles Woodruff and Mary Melrose Stephens. He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1931 and attended Mountain State Business College. He worked for Owens-Illinois in Charleston, W.Va., and then moved to Parkersburg to work for Johns-Manville fiberglass division.
He married the late Kathleen Meredith on June 10, 1941. He was a member of the Masonic Temple in Parkersburg. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting, reading and watching the boat traffic along the Ohio River.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter; a brother; and a sister.
He is survived by one daughter, Terry Zeman and her husband, Dwight, of Port Clinton, Ohio; and two sons, Stephen Stephens and his wife, Sheila, of Berryville and Michael Stephens and his wife, Lisa, of Belpre. He also is survived by eight grandchildren, Stacy (Stephens) Sefton, Christopher Zeman, Lynn (Zeman) Draigh, Shelly (Stephens) Pine, Sean Stephens, Allen Zeman, Mykala (Stephens) Sheppard and Madison Stephens; nine great-grandchildren, Meredith Zeman, Alexander Sefton, Rachel Sefton, Hannah Draigh, Jonathan Draigh, Liam Stephens, Ryan Stephens, Kathleen Pine and Peyton Salyers Zeman; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Tatman Funeral Home, Belpre. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg. The Rev. William K. Dawson, pastor of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Berryville, Va., will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Zeman, Allen Zeman, Christopher Sefton, Peter Draigh, John Pine and William Sheppard. Honorary pallbearer will be Sean Stephens.
