- Rev. Gerald Brooks Sayre, 98, of Cottageville, WV, passed away December 21, 2021, at his home following a sudden illness.
He was born April 1, 1923, in Cottageville, WV, a son of the late Ronald Early and Edna Isabelle (Ankrum) Sayre. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Velma Sayre; great-grandson, Wade Hudson Sayre; son-in-law, Dorsel Adkins; sister, Mabel Skeen.
Gerald was WWII United States Navy veteran. He was a rural mail carrier and retired post master for the Cottageville Post Office. He was a United Methodist minister with 60 plus years in the ministry. He was a member of the Cottageville United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Western Soil Conservation District. He enjoyed farming and was an honorary member of the Ravenswood F.F.A.
Survivors include his sons, Rev. Curtis (Sue) Sayre of Soddy Daisy, TN and Norman and Angie Sayre of Point Pleasant, WV; daughters, Janice Adkins of Cottageville, WV, Sharon (Walter) Shockley of Pittsburgh, PA and Gloria (Keith) Burdette of Cottageville, WV; sister, Jeanette Houchen of Cottageville, WV; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. ~ Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with Rev. Curtis Sayre and Rev. Charles Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville, WV. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service, Tuesday at the funeral home.

- Jiggs is a minister but also was a rural mail carrier on the Cow Run Route. If one could do a web search on the person that has officiated at more funerals in Jackson/Mason County I am sure his name would be at the top of the list.
