- Melvin McCellan Matheny, 88, of Point Pleasant, died Thursday, June 15, 1995, at his home.
He was a retired night watchman for Mason Furniture Company and a member of the Harvey Chapel Church in Leon.
Born Feb. 20, 1907, in Leon, he was a son of the late Daniel H. and Emily (Thomas) Matheny. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Staci Agnes (Cossin) Matheny; son, Walter Matheny; and two infant daughters.
Surviving are six daughters and sons-in-law, Iva Myrtle Hannan of Point Pleasant, Thelma M. Fox of Kingston, Ohio, Vacie and Dorsel Knapp, Juanita and Sherman Jordan, all of Leon, Evelyn and Levi Kinzel of Columbus, Ohio, and Eleanor and Eugene Fultz of Mt. Alto; two sons and daughters-in-law, Homer M. and Juanita Matheny of Point Pleasant, Harold O. and Velva Matheny of Leon; 23 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday, 1 p.m., at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home with the Rev. Verlin 'Sampy' Hart and Rev. Homer Stephens officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday, 5 to 9 p.m.
