Veteran's Day (click here)
Now more than ever we need to think of our men and women in uniform. They have a tough job and need our support. This is a little late (or a little early) for Veteran's Day. Few of us remember the original Veterans Day was called Armistice Day. The armistice was signed, on the eleventh hour, eleventh day, eleventh month, in 1918. The Germans laid down their arms and signed the Armistice ending World War I. Nor do we remember the name was changed to Veterans' Day by an Act of Congress on May 24, 1954. In October of that year, President Eisenhower called on all citizens to observe the day by remembering the sacrifices of all those who fought so gallantly, and through re-dedication to the task of promoting an enduring peace. The President referred to the change of name to Veterans' Day in honor of the servicemen of all America's wars. This is a tribute to our Veterans This is a wav file and may take a minute to load. The Vocalist is Terry Kelly from Newfoundland, Canada. This song was inspired by an incident that occurred on November 11, 1999. Terry Kelly was in a drug store in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, management of the store asked every one to observe two minutes of silence in respect to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us. One man disregarded the request. In anger towards the man who dishonored the request, the song “A Pittance of Time” was written by Kelly.
