He was killed by Indians along Hacker's Creek, near Buckhannon. ( I got this information form the book Jackson County West Virginia Past and Present. I am not sure I agree with all of it will check some dates do not check with other records. They were Welch, and emigrated to VA.
In the Mason Co. Personal Property Taxpayers list him for years 1805-06- 07 -09 -10--11-12-13-14.
In the Jackson County Land Book 1832 page 2 shows
89 1/2 acres Ohio River.
Records indicate that Thomas Hughes family came from Prince Willi am Co ., VA after the Revolutionary War to an area in Nicholas County, then settling at Hacker's Creek Local history books claim this family traces its roots to the Hughes family that emigrated from Wales by way of Scotland in the mid-1600's. However, DAR records show he was born in Ireland Thomas served as a private in the Virginia troops.
He was killed by Indians (gunshot) at Hacker's Creek, Harrison Co. WV alo ng with Jonathan Lowther.
In the early West Virginia Settlers, WV has him being killed in May 1788.
WV & VA Families has middle name as Henry for Thomas wife Mary Susanna Baker. It list Edward as a child.
